[google-cloud-sql-discuss] Re: cloud SQL 2nd generation instance activation policy

Hello,
I am having the same concerns. We only use the system during working hours, say 8am until 6pm. Keeping the instance running overnight and over weekends basically triples our cost.
Is there a way to programaticaly shut down the instance (e.g set the activation policy to NEVER in cron at EOB) at EOB and turn it on in the morning the same way (or to restart, I could create a special login page that would set the activation policy to ALWAYS again when the first user accesses the system)?
The cost hit is huge and any benefits we had with the on demand feature of Gen 1 is lost.
Thanks,
Istvan

Hello,

Google CloudSQL second generation instances doesn't offer on-demand billing as of yet. There is already a feature request already open with the product engineering team. You can subscribe to it for updates by clicking the star on the top left corner.

Second generation CloudSQL instances is charged for every minute that the instance is running and offer a sustained usage discount which is applied to all the instance types. This sustained usage discount can help you save depending on your monthly usage. For pricing information you can visit this link.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have further questions or concerns.

Faizan
