Error 0: Unable to execute statement

Hi,

I can't access the data in my Cloud SQL instance anymore. When I try to run a query in the SQL Prompt after a while those errors appear:

An unexpected error has occurred. We're looking into it.
Error 0: Unable to execute statement

The database worked for some days and suddenly stopped working for my App Engine application and from the SQL Prompt. Please contact me, because I don't want to post my instance name publicly.

Re: Seems quite expensive to host Wordpress on AppEngine, with Google Cloud SQL

Its worth pointing out that for $10.80/m you get your own dedicated database, replicated in multiple availability zones, and a very highly scalable application server. Users should bear this in mind when working out if Google App Engine + Cloud SQL is the right solution for them

Looking at the billing model it seems quite expensive to host a single Wordpress Website on Google's App Engine.

If we go by the package billing plans it will cost at least $11.16/month for a very light Wordpress instance and more than $45.26/month for anything above.

Would be interesting to run a live Wordpress blog and find out how expensive it will get with the "Per Use Billing Plan". While on this plan, just by running the cheapest D0 Database Instance (0.125GB RAM) ($0.025 per hour) it will cost $18/month. (No, your Wordpress site won't go without any visits for an 1 hour interval, which is required to put the database to sleep and avoid charging).

As soon as PHP runtime for AppEngine becomes available for general use, many Wordpress aficionados will find out the truth about this over-hyped solution.

I so much hope that someone can prove me wrong.

Good luck!

Hi Davide

I should just point out that both the per use and package plans have a limit on what you would pay for instance uptime per day (for example, $1.46 per day for a D1 instance). The only unbounded extras are for storage and IOs. By my estimation even a very determined DoS attack could only cost you an extra $2 per day for these at the very worst.

Hope this helps

Re: Billing

Hi Gana

The major cost for Cloud SQL instances is for up time, rather than storage or network.
If you use the package option then even the most determined developer would find it hard to run up a bill much larger than expected.

Re: How to convert to paying plan from free trial

The answer is yes to both of your questions. There is no action needed on your part if you want to keep using your Cloud SQL D0 instance.

If you do nothing, your D0 instance will incur charges starting on June 4. That'll happen automatically.
And you'll need to wait until June 4 to change D0 pricing plan to package.

Come June 4, at the end of the trial, I would like to convert it to paid.  I have already enabled billing, entered credit card information, etc etc.
So, I have two questions:
  1. If I do nothing, I will start paying from June 4, correct?  [Note: this would be perfect.  I don't see any way to say "upgrade my free D0 to a paying D0" so I assume it will happen automatically]
  2. If I want to go from D0 per-use to D0 package, I will have to wait until June 4, and do the change once I start to be billed, right?
I am asking these questions mainly because I received an email that seems to imply, from the tone, that I need to do something once the free trial ends.  In fact, I suspect I don't need to do anything before June 4.
Many thanks from a very happy user,

Luca

Re: Connection Pool

Google Cloud SQL could signal the connection pool about a pending shutdown...  Another (easy) solution would be to keep the database instance online while there are current connections. The user is paying for this instance hours so this would be no problem for Google ;)

Re: Google Cloud SQL with Hibernate and ... c3p0

Hello Joe,

I really hope this is an temporary/intermediate situation... A new connection for each request is very disadvantageous. What about a 'Google connection poo'l in the AppEngineDriver towards Google Cloud SQL? This connection pool is particular needed in the situations when we are using long (application wide) sessions...

This Google connection pool could be an easy port from existing available implementations...

Kind regards,

GPE cannot configure local MySQL?

I'm using Eclipse 3.8, GPE version 3.2.2.  I'm trying to configure a local MySQL instance, but the MySQL configuration dialog box doesn't "accept" my input. I entered the host (localhost), port (default 3306), username (root) password (blank), the database name, and specified the .jar file.

Clicking "OK" does nothing; but it does seem to save my input. If I click Cancel and then "Configure" again, it has in fact retained my settings, but there's an error message at the top of the dialog ("Configure MySQL instance for local development server.")

Any way to get past this?
